and Swiss Championship 2015
April 10th-12th    Boltigen, Switzerland
The Experience

Tournament Location

The tournament will take place in the village of Boltigen, which is located in the heart of the Simmental region between Spiez and Zweisimmen. This area is known for its special variety of cattle, as well as its great hiking and skiing opportunities. Many popular hiking trails either start at or pass through Boltigen.

The village itself dates back well over eight centuries and is primarily a farming community, with around 1300 people. It's most recognized landmark is the church, whose history dates back to the early 1200s.

The village is easy to reach either by car or train from the north through Speiz, from the west through Bulle, or from the south through Saanen.

By Train: Coming from Germany or Basel, one can take the ICE train direct to Spiez, then switch to the RegioExpress towards Zweisimmen. From western Switzerland, a scenic option would be to take the GoldenPass Panoramic train from Montreux. This is one of the most beautiful train rides in Switzerland. Coming from Bulle, one can also catch this train at the connection in Montbovon. The train will take you all the way to Zweisimmen; from there you can take one of the many regional trains going north that stop in Boltigen. If taking the train direct from Bern, be aware that the train splits in Spiez, with the front half continuing to Brig and the back half going up the Simmental to Zweisimmen. So, be sure to find a seat in the back half!
In the photo of Boltigen above, the train station is in the lower left, and the Teamhaus is near the center of the village (about a 5 minute walk).

By Car: Coming from the north and east, the simplest way is to take Highway 1 to Bern, then Highway 6 to Spiez. A more scenic option would be to take the E35 through Lucerne to Highway 8 over the mountains into Spiez from the east. From Spiez (or just before Spiez coming from the west) take Highway 11 up the Simmental towards Zweisimmen. Boltigen is about 20 minutes from Spiez. Coming from the west, (if the passes aren't closed from snow!) a nice trip would be to take the shortcut from Bulle through Charmey and over the Jaunpass to Highway 11, which joins the highway just a couple of kilometers south of Boltigen.

Once you get to the village, the Teamhaus is hard to miss -- it's the big white building in the middle of town with the bear on the corner! Click here for a look at Google Street View.
